The Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment is based on the principles of Oriental Medicine. It involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into particular areas of the face, ears, neck, hands, trunk and legs along channels or meridians of energy called Qi. Specific points are chosen to manipulate the movement of energy in the body according to the individual's needs.

As Acupuncture can profoundly effect the regulation of hormones in the body, conditions like acne and overly dry skin can be quite improved. By substantially increasing the circulation of blood, lymph and Qi to the head, these treatments improve the complexion noticeably. Healthy facial coloring can be restored and there can also be a tightening of the pores.

The facelift generally consists of 12 treatments over a 6 to 10 week period. The effects become most noticeable and lasting after the seventh session. Each person responds differently, depending on his/her lifestyle and condition prior to treatment. After this set of treatments, occasional maintenance treatments will foster longer lasting results.

For people with extremely weak constitutions or other major health concerns, medical acupuncture and herbal prescriptions in addition to cosmetic acupuncture will speed along the process.

Contraindications
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is contraindicated for some pituitary disorders, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, individuals who have a pacemaker or who have a problem with bleeding or bruising, or who currently suffer from migraine headaches. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture should not be done during pregnancy, during a bout with a cold or flu, during an allergy attack or during an acute herpes outbreak.

The treatment should be performed by a licensed acupuncturist with training in the specialty of Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Not many acupuncturists are specially trained in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Optimally, one should seek out a practitioner trained by an expert in this field.

Does it really make a difference?
The use of acupuncture in cosmetology, especially in preventing and reducing wrinkles, has already attracted great attention in Japan, Hong Kong and Sweden. The effectiveness of Acupuncture is due to its direct manipulation of the body's energy system and balancing or removing blockages. A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The effects included:

• the skin becoming delicate and fair
• improvement of the elasticity of facial muscles and leveling of wrinkles
• a ruddier complexion
• overall rejuvenation - not confined to the face.
